Description There is currently a vacancy for an EPSRC funded PhD Studentship within the CArD group at the Institute for Computer Systems Architecture within the School of Informatics University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. The studentship is for 3.5 years and in the area of Code Generation for Configurable Processors.

The compiler group investigates a diverse range of problems from machine learning based compilation to auto-parallelising for embedded DSP systems. There are close links with other UK, European and US groups and there is ample opportunity for creative study and interaction.

The aim of this project is to develop advanced compiler technology that can efficiently generate code for configurable and extensible processors with custom instruction set extensions. This PhD will involve new research into automated compiler-based code generation techniques for complex instruction patterns that result from the synthesis of application specific instruction set extensions. The project is supported by our industrial partner ARC, the world leader in configurable processor technology.

Qualifications Candidates should hold a good first degree, be self-motivated and possess strong mathematical and computational skills. A relevant MSc or knowledge of compiler optimisation would be useful but not obligatory.
